Managing Memories – Baby Books

Managing&OrganizingMemories

Memories….I realized I needed to share another form of memories.

The good old baby book.

Let me take you back to when I was pregnant with my first baby.

I got WAY into scrapbooking. During my last nine days of my pregnancy (please note that these were nine days AFTER my due date) I worked on my baby’s baby book / scrapbook. I became a perfectionist with my scrapbooking, wanting to get every page just right. During her first year of life I worked hard on her book and truly by the time she turned one, it was up to date and complete. (Gold star for mom!)

With baby #2 I followed suit, more or less. I think the main reason I was able to do this was because of two of my favorite words – nap time.

Now…..when baby #3 joined our clan, I struggled. I had a book for her and for the most part got it laid out and all of the pictures put in. The only thing I have left to do (to this day) is the documenting. In fact, I was going to work on it this week, and even made a special trip to the store to buy glue sticks.

Guess what?

I left the glue sticks at the self check out. I paid for them but didn’t take them home with me! So…I still have to finish her book. No big deal it’s not like she just turned eight or anything! I WILL get her’s done this year, I promise.

Now, I still scrapbook a little, but I have decided to keep it to our Family Christmas Album only. I really enjoyed scrapbooking but it takes a lot of time and I seem to need the time to keep my photos organized rather than trying to create beautiful pages.

So…I’m going to now share a few of my lessons on Baby Books and the likes.

Managing Memories – Baby Books

1-Buy OR Create a Baby Book for your little blessing.
Ask yourself what you personally will be able to work with the best. Does it need to be a simple fill in the blank or do you want to create something from scratch? KNOW yourself and be honest with what you will actually be able to follow through with and enjoy doing.
2-Determine if the Baby Book will be for their first year or beyond.
I recommend a one year Baby Book and then come up with another way to document the family events. I do an annual family photo album and then place special photos in my children’s memory boxes. I had the IDEA to create individual scrapbooks for all of them with a spread for each year, and well….let’s just say that wasn’t happening, for me.
3-Try to be REALISTIC with what you put into place, Baby Book and beyond…
Starting with your first child, think BIG picture. What will you be able to actually get done. How will you manage the memories? Not only for their first year of life, but for the additional years? Make a plan that will be realistic for you and for each child.

Happy Organizing!!!
