Here are the only tips you need to organize a mudroom. When I call it a “room” – in my home it is more of a small closet, or walk through. I actually like the layout, for the most part. The mudroom is our walk through between our garage and our family room and kitchen. We have remodeled this room with the following: fresh paint, updated lighting, new cabinet doors and hardware, an upper shelf, cubbies built below the existing counter, tile flooring, and a laundry chute. (Many thanks to my handy dad!)

The upper shelf is where I store all of my birthday supplies, stationary, extra office supplies and school supplies, craft materials, light bulbs, shoe polish. Then, I hang all of our hanging clothes up right out of the dryer every week and carry them off to the appropriate closets.

Organize a Mudroom

This counter is supposed to look like this, but who are we kidding…..it rarely does! The nice thing is that this a room that only we go through. So, if I keep the door shut it doesn’t bother me that this counter can become a catch all.

The baskets are designed to hold the following:

1) Left-items to be returned to stores/friends etc.

2) The middle-my stuff, and the right-hubby’s stuff. This is a place for me and my hubby to place things we want to grab when we are running out the door. They are at least an attempt to keep the area more contained.

3) The four laundry bins help separate the dirty colors by – colors, whites, towels, and workout. My hubby and I each have a cubby for our bags as well.

There is a door in the upstairs hallway that the girls access and then a drop from our Master Bedroom closet as well. So simple! Laundry is actually one of my favorite household chores, call me crazy! I do love it, not so much putting it away, but I do enjoy the satisfaction of nicely folded clothes and empty laundry baskets. 🙂
