Snack Solutions for Kids

Are you always looking for the best snack solutions for kids? Well….something I read just recently, changed my life. Well…that might be a little extreme, but truly it has made such a difference. For YEARS I have been answering the same question the same way – “Mom, can I please have a snack?” (usually there is a hint of a whine in there too), I answer, “Yessss…”, as I take a deep breath, and put the last lunch plate in the dishwasher. I pull out the box of crackers, get out another bowl and serve it to my hungry munchkin. Until…I stumbled upon this amazing idea!
Guess what I had sitting in my cupboard?  About 20 of these same cups!  (They are BPA free, dishwasher and freezer safe!)  I had bought them and made all this freezer jam that nobody really liked.  So after realizing that nobody liked my jam and that I am not a motivated canning person (even freezer jam), I now had a new purpose for my cups!  What a beautiful day.  (Thank you Jen, at I Heart Organizing!  You know how to put the heart back into snack time.)

Me, happy, organized, and relaxed, because now I can just say, with a smile – “You may have one snack cup.”  They are great at home and on the go, cleaner than plastic bags, and better for our earth too!  I call it another win – win.  You should also check over here about other great veggie snack ideas for kids.

But then, I got to thinking, and said to myself, what are other snack items I can make more accessible for my children?  And, I got this idea, watch out world…you may want to sit down for this one…introducing my fridge bins.

I put in string cheese, applesauce, and yogurts.  Other ideas I have thought about would be veggies, or fruits, this was just what I had on hand at the time.  I placed these low enough for all of the little hands to reach (with my permission).

Snack Solutions for Kids:

  • Fill by serving size located on the food packaging
  • Try to include as many healthy options, nuts, dried fruits, cut up veggies, whole grains…
  • Load up your snack areas right when you unload your groceries
  • Place the snacks in an area that your children may reach on their own
  • Limit snacking, so your children are still hungry for meals

*Tip – Create Snack Cups (Pantry) and Snack Bins (Fridge) for your children to reach on their own.How do you monitor snacks?  What do you do to keep healthy snacks ready and available?
